ABOUT
CHRISTY
I’m a Southern girl. I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee where I had great teachers and mentors that encouraged me in my love for art. I studied at the Savannah College of Art & Design and received my BFA in Visual Communications from the University of Mississippi.

My art degree took me in a few directions, including an Admissions Counselor for the Memphis College of Art and creating a business with a friend, painting murals in homes and restaurants. Then, God took the lead…a friend suggested I apply to teach high school art at a private Christian school. I got the job and it changed my life. My faith grew tremendously and my purpose became clear. I continued to teach for 18 years. It enabled me to share the gift I love, guide and encourage young people to grow as artists and rewarded me in countless ways seeing their success.

When our daughter went to college, I looked ahead to a new chapter in life where I returned to making my own art. A move to Cincinnati during the pandemic, gave me the push to become a full-time artist. My husband’s job has moved us quite a bit, we have lived in seven cities. The experience of living throughout the country has been an adventure and has greatly influenced my painting.
My inspiration when painting draws from my southern roots, my family, my faith, my teaching, the places we’ve lived…essentially, my life. It all spills out in the form of layers and color. My hope is that my attempt to express these things in my paintings resonates with others, reminds them of a place or feeling and somehow connects us, sharing the way a painting can give you a reason to stop and take in the moment.
